Conrad, great write up on CommentLuv! I agree it is a great plugin. It promotes conversation on your site and gives the commenter some SEO value for their site.

Several of us recommend WordPress to build ALL business websites, not just those people are thinking of using as blogs (though I DO recommend blogging from each of them). I have 47 URLs but only TWO real web addresses... the others are "parked" on the top two and I use subdirectories for the others, each with a different installation of WordPress. That way I don't have to worry about ONE database handling everything, or themes that aren't compatible, or WMU, etc. Takes a bit longer to backup each site because of the redundant WP code, but when I want to spin off one of my sites, all the code is self-sufficient. But long-live WordPress... great product and Google loves it too!

Google Analytics is the free stats program. There is a tag that they give you for each web site you are tracking. That tag needs to go into the footer of the page. I forgot to put the tag into the footer, so it never sent any data to Google to be tracked.

You got PR because there was are PR update :) Are the sites ranking for their keywords as well?

I wouldn't call this google sandbox. I call it google honeymoon period. New websites / new articles sometimes get higher rank in google, it may just be some google algorithm trying to rank 'breaking news'.

Even if you get 15 time more clicks per visitor on a parked domain, don't you get more than 15 times more traffic on a developed site?

Where do you get the content for a developed site that will be worth a few hundred in a year? It takes some time and effort to build that content.

Intriguing ideas that I'll have to ponder. Thanks for the feedback.

"There’s more value in developing them that in selling them"

I am not sure if I agree with this. I do a fair share of both and a good parked domain can be a great winner. You figure with a parked domain users have less distractions and tend to click adds more then developed domains. I average about one click for every five visitors on a page and about one click for every 75 visitors or so on a developed page.

If I look at my balance sheet over the last year parked domains were the clear winner over developed domains and that is counting the fact that I sell them also.

Now I just develop domains to build up traffic and then park them and sell later.

Some domains I keep for sentimental reasons, like you are, but it's pretty easy to take a ten dollar domain and turn it into a few hundred over a years time. Time that by a few hundred domains and you will see my point there.

I love commentluv and it's a great way to encourage people to visit your blog and make comments. I also suggest adding the plug in that removes the 'no follow' tag that wordpress adds into the code in the comments section or else commentluv loses some of it's value.

I must agree with you. Some of the church websites really need some work. But then, not many people use them to check much on it, except church timings and address for the newcomers!

Sorry it took me so long to respond, I had a meltdown over at my site. A "friend" of mine thought he was playing with my local copy of my blog, when in fact he was hot online through an FTP.

He wiped my local directories AND the server directories. I lost EVERYTHING. Luckily, there's a WP plugin WP-DBManager that can be configured to email a copy of the MySQL DB in a .gz file. Saved my life! I'm in the process of rebuilding at the moment.

But to answer your question, I am running regular WP 2.7.1 (Update just came out today) on seven subdomains. Seven almost identical installs. I would have used the WP-MU, but I still don't know it well enough to go live with it. It looks awesome though.

As for plugins, I run the usual: Akismet, Expanding Text, Extended Options, Google XML Sitemaps, Smart Youtube, Statpress, WordPress.com Stats, WP-Ban, WP-DBManager, and WP-UserOnline. Those are the always active ones. I also have the Maintenance Mode plugin on hot standby for those times I want to tinker with the theme. Oh, my fave theme right now is googlechrome. Clean, easy to tinker with, and it's really quite good right out of the box.

<abbr><em>Scott E. Lee’s last blog post..<a href="http://blog.scottelee.com/2009/02/05/oh-yes-were-back-sort-of.html" rel="nofollow">Oh yes, we’re back … sort of</a></abbr></em>

Thanks for the write up Conrad and you're right Comment Luv is wonderful. Another great (and often over looked) plugin for WordPress is Comment Relish which automatically sends an email to people to thank them for posting to your blog.

Both tools help increase backlinks which is one of the key tools used by Google and Alexa to measure web site performance but it's also simply a useful tool to help spread your message across the web.

Chris

btw, I love your blog. keep up the great work!
